Hello young world, I’m Harley Garrett II. I’m a photographer/ videographer currently located in Houston, Texas. I was born and raised in the great city of Cleveland, Ohio. I’m a Clevelander thick and through, who loves and adores Cleveland sports. I graduated college in 2010 from Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania with a bachelor’s degree in business management.
Growing up I was always infatuated with design. I spent a good amount of my childhood making my toys cooler, by taking them apart and combining them with one another. During high school, I focused my attention on athletics, which did not leave much time for me to grow creatively. During the first semester of my sophomore year of college Kanye West’s album “Graduation”, reinvigorated my passion for design. The creativity, and the blend of the beats with the lyrics on that album (Graduation) inspired me to search for my true purpose. Over the years, I’ve experimented with different mediums of design. Those mediums ranged from: attempting to learn to draw (major fail lol ), web design, clothing design, and digital art.
It wasn’t until 2014 with the help of my cousin and mentor George Drake that I found the mediums that best fit my skill set. Those mediums are photography/videography. I enjoy creating visuals because it allows me to not only capture emotion, but create emotions as well.
The human face is my favorite subject to capture. I think there’s no better subject in the world, because of the beauty ones’ face can hold. The face shows emotion even when one feels emotionless. I am passionate about live music performances as well. Music has always been important to me since my first listen of Jay Z’s “Vol 2…Hard Knock Life”. I feel that music, and art are synonymous. Since, I was a child I’ve always wanted to work with music artist; which is the reason I photograph so many live music performances now. Concert performances are the epitome of emotion. I love seeing great artist who love the art of music create live, because their emotion is simply astonishing.
My only hope and goal is to provide people with the art that will move their souls. I believe God put me here to provide other people with positivity and energy. I want to create that positivity by showing emotion that can inspire others.
